We are so excited for our end of the year PInata Party this coming week! A couple of the little ones came up with the idea of a Pinata Party for this year's party way back last Fall. They have waited for quite some time! We spent a good portion of the week making paper mache pinatas that will be decorated this coming week before the party. I"m looking forward to seeing how creative they will be decorating their own pinata!

Happy Father's Day to all the father figures out there! I hope your little ones made it extra special! We continued our learning about rain forests along side some Father's Day crafting this week. The kids added some monkeys and butterflies to their rain forest. We learned about camouflage, who lives in the various layers of the rain forest and why those locations are beneficial to them, and why half the worlds creatures live there. The kids dropped food colouring onto salt drawings and watched the liquid travel, as well as blend with other colours to make new ones. It was pretty exciting! They also stretched their fine motor muscles by making twisted pipe cleaner monkeys. What a week of weather it has been! We went from rain suits and toques to shorts and sunscreen. We don't mind! There was a lot of puddle jumping, grassy hill sliding and Nose Hill adventures to do! We also brought out some musical instruments to explore. We practiced following a beat to familiar nursery rhymes and had a little fun making things up along the way! We started learning about the two types of rain forests; tropical and temperate. We discovered some of the differences between the two; temperature, plants and animals. Who knew we had rain forest areas in Canada! We are currently working on our tropical rain forest display. Throughout the week the kids worked on cutting out the tree trunk, bushy leaves and vines. They also made hand print sloths and worked as a team to make a large snake out of interlocking paper rectangles. You will see these in next weeks pictures when our rain forest is complete! Was there ever a lot of pollen this week! We definitely are not used to having to wipe pollen off our clothes. Even though it tickles our noses, it sure is a lot of fun to squeeze off the trees! What better way to enjoy the nice weather than by going on a Nose Hill adventure and having a picnic! I believe this was the farthest we have ever gone, 5km! I was quite impressed! The farther we went the more new paths, large rocks, plants and insects we came across. We could see all of downtown! That was very exciting. I was told to take so many pictures! Next up.....hiking across the top part of NoseHill! |
