We continued our exploration of Community Helpers, with a focus on police officers, this week. We learned about traffic control police and police detectives. When the traffic lights go out there needs to be someone to tell the traffic when to go. We played Red Light Green Light, with the added yellow light (tip toe) and blue light (jumping jacks). We also made a STOP/GO sign to hold so we could pretend to be traffic control police. We had a bunch of fun making paper plate police cars and pretend police badges as well.
We learned that Police detectives have an eye for detail. They use tools to find and match fingerprints to find bad guys. Using ink to make and look at our own fingerprints under a magnifying glass was fun and we then used our inky fingers to do some fingerprint adding. We also practiced who to use a magnifying glass to look for the details in a fingerprint that would make them different than all the others; we went on a hunt to find matching fingerprints after this.
Crime scene…who made this mess?! We had to put our police detective hats on and use our magnifying glasses to find and match fingerprints to that of the possible suspects. It turned out that Cinderella was the criminal who made the huge mess! Who would have guessed that?! The kids felt that Cinderella needed to go to jail so they built a block jail. Too funny!
We finished the writing portion of the gift for our mail carrier (better known as the mail lady). WE have been waiting to run into her again…as they seem to be switching up the mail carriers for the area. We have been working really hard on identifying letter sounds within the words we hear. A couple of the kids are even working on leaving spaces between words. So exciting! Good job!
We continued learning about 3D shapes this week. After listening to a shape song they had to, as a group, identify what shape I was showing them. By the end of this week they were starting to see some of these shapes while we were outside! It was really neat to see that someone identified a pyramid that belonged to the roof of a garage.
We also worked on our journals and painted with the added sparkle of sequins.
