Here at Blooming Butterflies we have been learning about what fall means and what fall colours look like. We have been on adventures to Nosehill Park and around the community to find and collect these fall colours; also remembering not to pick leaves from trees or bushes because these leaves are not ready to leave their home. With our collection of leaves, twigs and weeds came fall themed crafts such as a hedgehog and crayon leaf rubbings.
Not only did we identify and collect fall colours; we also mixing and created them. With a little help from Pan, these fall colours were mixed up and squirted onto a paper on the fridge to create a unique artwork. While mixing colours we also tried to see what would float or sink and why.
Practicing our fine motor skills is very important. Who knew we used our little fingers in so many intricate ways! We tore paper to create fall trees, continued to make our names using macaroni, used scissors to cut a variety of lines, peeled stickers and glued pomp oms to create numbers and played a very tricky game that involved our hands and eyes to be very coordinated.
Mat Man was introduced this week. The kids love singing Mat Man’s song. Mat Man (from Handwriting Without Tears) teaches students important readiness skills such as body awareness, counting, building and drawing
Some other activities we did this week include learning numbers through hopscotch, practice building letters, identifying and organizing shapes, numbers and letters with blocks, and visiting Chip the ride on toy chipmunk at the park.
Have a wonderful weekend. See you next week!
