We said good bye to two little butterflies, on their way to Kindergarten and another little butterfly under September. We wish them luck in Kindergarten and will be happy to see the other soon!

A very special 3rd birthday took place this week as well! There were many moments to celebrate this past week!

It has been raining and storming a lot lately so we spent this week learning about the seasons, how many there are, what types of weather usually take place during each season, and how sometimes odd weather happens when you don't think it's supposed to. We then journaled about our most favourite season.

Rain Rain Go Away was sung many times this week! We managed to get outside all days except one!

What happens after the rain? A rainbow! We used markers to colour a coffee filter and then painted water on top. It was like magic watching the colours bleed together.

Clouds were another thing we talked about this week. We re-visited our Ivory soap cloud making experiment. It is definitely one of our favourite experiments. After our cloud was made we took it apart and put it in water to see what would happen. What a soapy, fun mess! We also used a clothespin to grab a cotton, making its own paintbrush, to paint a cloud picture. If we use our imaginations we can see images in the sky!

We also talked about wind. What can wind move? Can it move anything? We used straws to blow different materials to see what our own wind power could move. We also had a Pom Pom blowing race! We also had a ton of fun with our bubble wands! You need just the right amount of wind for these bubbles to blow; can't wave the wand to hard or too little...it has to be just right.

We used our bodies to make thunderstorm noises in sequence of how a storm typically brews and dissipates. Rubbing our hands together represented light rain. Slapping our legs with our hands at different speeds represented rain. Stomping our feet represented thunder.

Some other things we worked on this week were rhyming word puzzles and word work with the letters S-V. We used buttons to write our names and to represent numbers that we rolled on dice. We were even able to roll two different dice and add them together using the buttons. Our storytelling rocks came out again this week to create a new story. The story this time had giant ants and snakes eating people. It was quite the entertaining story!

This week we said good bye to a fully bloomed butterfly who is ready for Kindergarten! We are sad to say goodbye but know that she will do amazing during this next step. We celebrated her last day with a PJ party!

Oh Canada! What a great week leading up to Canada Day! We were all really excited to say Happy Birthday to Canada and sang our nation anthem every day. We learned about what the Canada flag is and what a maple leaf is. We were fortunate to have a maple tree just a few houses away where we were about to snip a couple leaves off to glue onto our popsicle stick Canada flag. It was puzzling for some as to why this maple leaf was green and not red; good chance for us to revisit what happens in the Fall time! We also made a larger scale Canadian flag on a canvas where we had to work as a team to finger paint the red areas.

We explored our Canadian north by learning about Inukshuks and the Aurora Borealis. What is an Inukshuk? We built is using different types of blocks; exploring how different blocks can or cannot support the next blocks to be added to an Inukshuk. A question was asked about how the rocks could be moved since they were so large and heavy. There were a couple of guesses; a lot of people had to help and animals had to pull them because animals are stronger. Everyone was amazed to see the rainbow colours of the Aurora Borealis in the sky up north. We explored using watercolours on top of a wax drawing. It was neat to see how the lines showed up even as we painted on them. Then we used paper squares and rectangles to make an Inukshuk to be the foreground of our artwork.

Animals are always and area of interest here at Blooming Butterflies, so we brainstormed all the different animals we thought may live here. There were many great guesses! We then used images of Canadian animals and other images widely seen as Canadian to play a matching and memory game.

Some other things we did this week include creating a Canada Day firework craft using Q-Tips dipped in paint, a letter scavenger hunt, sponge painting with a favourite letter, word work with the letter P and an outdoor adventure that led us to a little valley where we saw many new things; trees, flowers, a creek, etc.
