RAWR! It was dinosaur week!
We made a play dough dinosaur land with the help of tiny dino moulds, made dinosaur footprints, worked together to build a toy dinosaur with a mini screwdriver, had fun playing with a baking soda dinosaur land that had vinegar lava, and made paper dinosaur heads where you have to look at their teeth to know if they are carnivores or herbivores.
We played a dino math game where we had to roll the dice (it has either numbers or dots), find the matching number and place a coloured spot on it. We also sequenced dino numbers, matched dino numbers and did some dinosaur adding in teams.
It was fun preparing tiny dines to be frozen into dino eggs, with the anticipation of trying to get them out the next day. They tried all sorts of ways to break the dines out ie: smashing them with a rock, poking them with a stick, trying to eat the ice around them, using their hot breath, laying them on their legs to melt, etc. Lots of great ideas!
Our letters this week were X and Y. They are getting much better at writing using diagonal lines! Someone even noticed that we had started a word family in our list of X words, so we expanded on it and came up with Ox, Box, Fox and Knox (from Dr. Seuss’ Fox In Socks). We also re-visited Mat Man and our letter building terminology.
It has been so beautiful out that the kids were surprised with a trip to DQ. They were extremely excited!
