This week was all about bridges. We spent much of our time exploring different ways to make bridges using a variety of materials such as: toilet paper tubes, yogurt containers, straws, popsicle sticks, paper, cardboard, etc. We worked together to make a large Cable- Stay bridge and individually made Truss bridges.
We learned about types of bridges (ie: Cable- Stay, Truss, Beam, Arch, Suspension) and what makes them stand, as well as examples of them and what they are used for. We even took a look at some bridges that are in Calgary and tried to figure out what type they were. It was neat to see bridges we have walked or driven across ourselves.
We learned a little bit about the famous artist Claude Monet and how he used to paint. Everyone painted their own version of Monet’s "Bridge over a pond of water lilies” by using the tape resist method.
We also started the process of making Rock Candy. Now comes the patience while we wait for the sugar crystals to grow.
Our letters this week were D and P. Their goal with the letter P was to think of 100 P words without the help of any word songs, and they did it!
