Happy May long weekend. I hope everyone is out and about enjoying the weather!..Much like we did this past week. We went on two NoseHill Park adventures! One of them being all the way across to the other side! We saw a deer and learned about why deer show up in the Porcupine Valley area. We saw a few bees and talked about pollination. We found buds on the trees, and tried to figure out what type of birds were flying overhead. The kids buried some popcorn kernels they found; thinking a popcorn tree will grow. They also got to play in a mini forested area in the stick/branch teepees that others have made and had a picnic. The kids have been asking to make this journey for quite a few months now, so they were really excited that the weather was perfect to do so!
This week, other than our NoseHill Park adventures, we learned about fish; various types, where in the water certain types of fish live and how they ‘breathe’ under the water. We learned that Orcas and Dolphins are actually mammals and that led us to talk about what mammals are.
We made handprint fish puppets, folded and painted toilet tube fish, painted Blowfish with forks and made shape fish in journals. We also practiced our numbers 6-10, and played with Goldfish crackers and dice to represent and add numbers.
We practiced spelling, and tracing our names, as well as used pinecones.
