My name is Audra Merino. I am an Alberta Certified Teacher, with a background in Fine Arts, who loves what I do. I have taught Junior and Senior Kindergarten in Calgary and am now into my seventh year running an early learning program in Beddington NW Calgary.
I aim to prepare 2.5 - 5 year olds for Kindergarten and beyond. I want to instill a love of learning in young children and I am a fond believer that children learn best through play and exploration.
In order to facilitate learning of any kind I strongly believe that the environment must be a socially, emotionally and physically safe place for all students. I want them to feel that they are heard and respected so they are comfortable communicating with peers and adults; allowing them the freedom to fully embody their learning experience.
In addition to a structure of fundamentals, daily activities will be inspired and driven by what children at Blooming Butterflies are curious about. I believe that it is important to offer different means of learning i.e.: through seeing, hearing, and doing. As much as possible, children will be learning outdoors; whether that be arts and science, gross motor skills, even math and language. I am a firm believer that children need to actively “do” what they are learning. I want to encourage them to always be active in their lifestyle and their learning.
Here at Blooming Butterflies, children are encouraged to ask questions, explore their curiosities and experiment with new ideas. I want to give them opportunities to discover what they are interested in. I understand that children learn differently and at their own pace. I believe that encouraging children, and not pushing them too far too early will start their educational journey in a positive way, allowing them to enter different avenues of learning when they are ready.
